Independence Day 2013

Some quotes on WORK, by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah:

I insist you to strive. Work, work and only work for satisfaction with patience, humbleness and serve thy nation.
- (All India Muslim Students Conference Jalandhur, 15 Nov 1942)

Get out of tranquility and step in the practical life. Dedicate your faculties to seek improvement in every field to make the condition of people. It is only then we can be strong enough to counter threats to our nation and defeat our enemies.
- (Message to Bohar Students of Karachi, 13 Jan 1941)

Now is the time, chance and opportunity for every Mussalman to make his or her fullest and best contribution and make the greatest sacrifice and work ceaselessly in the service of our nation and make Pakistan one of the greatest nations of the world.

 - (August 31, 1947)

Just over a week ago, Pakistan celebrated her 66th Independence Day. A day where I have always written a piece dedicated to Pakistan and her people, urging the people to strive for betterment of themselves which eventually lead a peaceful and harmonious society, InshAllah.

However, this time I didn't write anything on 14th August. Even though I may not blog the whole year, I do blog on 14th August. Not this time though, and the reason is simple: I was working.

Every year on 14th August, Pakistanis close down everything and celebrate. No work, just fireworks and songs. Time to sit back and chill, right? No need to work, just party! Really?

The father of our nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah died because of working too hard, not relaxing, and doing his utmost to help Pakistan get on her feet. How do we repay his, and so many others' sacrifices? We party!

We need to stop partying every chance we get, and actually start working. Just get to work. Do what you are supposed to do. You are a student? Study. You are a laborer? Build something. You are a merchant? Sell your goods. You are a guard? Protect the people. You are a lawmaker? Run the country, don't expect or ask for kickbacks, just do what you took an oath to do.

The problem in Pakistan is that none of us want to work. We all keep passing the buck up and around, hoping that all the bad things will eventually disappear of their own accord. Sticking your head in the sand will do nothing except let others screw you over.

Come on people, be faithful to yourselves. Stop wasting time. Even if you do not care about others, just do what you are getting paid to do, and stop goofing off. Stop blaming others and just do your part, and do it well.

And above all else, be good.
